4 strategies to market your mobile app

Did you know that 9 out of 10 people who download your app will only use it for a maximum of six months? So, the number one problem in the mobile app ecosystem is retention, as a lot of industry experts say.

Here are 4 basic mobile app marketing moves.

1. Find Your Target Persona

Marketing an app has a lot of work and you have to make sure that you are directing your energy and your money to the right audience. The best thing to do is to identify your target persona. Marketing a social media app to different demographics delivers different results. Use brainstorming and visioning techniques to articulate who your typical customer or customers might be and what that person or those people would look like (act like, do for a living, etc.).

2. Consider your app's price very carefully

Of course you want to earn good revenue from each download. However, research indicates that apps receive more downloads when they drop in price, and that free and freemium apps see the highest download count. Consider whether you will offer your app for free, use a freemium model where you earn money through in-app purchases, or offer your app for a one-time fee.

3. User acquisition vs. retention

The battle you have to give every day is to remind your current users why your app improves their life. On the one hand, you have to continuously promote your app and your new offers or features for getting new users. If you already have a significant user base, you should think about strengthening the user's retention through special promotions via for example Mobile App Retargeting or Re-Engagement campaigns.

4. Don't Overlook the International Market

Many apps can be marketed on an international scale with a few changes and this will result in expanded reach. Trends in different markets can affect your app's popularity, so if you notice that your app category is trending in South American countries, for example, create a Spanish-language version.

The number of mobile apps are expanding and advertisers have to work with more specific app marketing strategies to get a user's attention. Those 4 strategies should help you to create a successful marketing plan for your app.
